“Dulcimer
Basics: Notes and Strumming” -Discover
the wonders and joys of the mountain dulcimer as you explore the fretboard and
understand the best fingers to use to play simple songs. You’ll also learn how
to hold the pick to get the best sound for a smooth, easy strum. DAD Tuning.

Session 5E Mountain Dulcimer Intermediate
“Introductions
to “Bluegrassy” Fingerpicking for Dulcimer or Banjammer- New Repertoire” -Apply the “bum-diddy” rhythm
to a few simple fingerpicking patterns, to create a sound reminiscent of an Old
Time or Bluegrass banjo. We’ll learn the basic patterns and then apply them to
a sweet, sloe tune or hymn for an early country sound, and a faster, fiddle
tune. I’ll teach some favorites from my new book! It’s fun, you might get
hooked! DAD Tuning.

Session 6A Mountain Dulcimer Beginner
“Easy
Chords and Strumming Patterns” -We’ll work on developing a good
right-hand strum, learn how strum direction can help you with counting and
rhythms and explore some basic ideas about chords and left-hand fingering. Then
we’ll learn some new tunes and maybe play chords while we sing a song or two!

Session 8K Mountain Dulcimer Intermediate
“Early
Music and Gorgeous Tunes in E Minor” -This tuning is great for late
tunes, international tunes and lovely airs. It gives the dulcimer a wonderful
medieval sound. We’ll learn the beautiful Welsh tune, “Queen’s Marsh”, the
Scottish piece, “Lulle Me Beyond Thee”, from the 17th century and
one more. Great new tunes for your repertoire! DAD Tuning and bring your capo.

Session 9A Mountain Dulcimer Beginner
“Appalachian
Songs and the History of Our Music” -The dulcimer originated in the
Appalachian Mountains. Its Scottish heritage earned it the nickname “a bagpipe
with strings”. There are beautiful, simple songs to learn from to take you back
to those early times, and they sound perfect on the dulcimer. We’ll learn about
the history of the dulcimer, and some lovely tunes that you can enjoy. DAD Tuning.

Questions and Easy Tunes” -We’ll take some time to clarify
some musical terms and things you might have wondered about, then we’ll have
