Friday 10:15-11:30 Session 2E Mountain Dulcimer Intermediate

“Dulcimer Chord College” -There are a few shapes that do most of the work on the dulcimer. We’ll learn the ones you’ll use over and over, how to move them around, and how to keep them sounding clean and solid. My system turns learning these into something you can really do. You’ll see how these shapes open up more music than you might think.

Friday 1:00-2:15 Session 3F Mountain Dulcimer Intermediate

“Playing Dulcimer Tunes with Variety” -Sometimes we fall into the trap of making every song sound the same. In this class, I’ll show you some ways to mix things up-different strums, fills, and different octaves. You’ll walk away with simple tricks that add interest and life to any tune.

Friday 2:30-3:45 Session 4D Mountain Dulcimer Intermediate

“Cord-Melody the Easy Way -It’s a beautiful sound when chords and melody work together on the same instrument. I’ll walk you through building a chord-melody step by step. You’ll end up with a tune that sounds full and beautiful but is still easy to play. The first approach is pretty simple, the second takes a little preparation, but is quite beautiful.

Saturday 8:45-10:00 Session 6V Chromatic Dulcimer

“Chromatic Dulcimer Demystified” -All those extra frets don’t have to be confusing. I’ll show you how the chromatic fretboard is laid out and how to get comfortable with it. We’ll play a few scales, chords and tunes that prove it’s not as overwhelming as it looks.

Saturday 10:15-11:30 Session 7E Mountain Dulcimer Intermediate

“Flatpicking That Feels Good” -Flatpicking isn’t about playing fast and fancy-it’s about playing clean, steady, interesting music. We’ll work on right-hand technique and tone, then use it on a few tunes that feel great under the fingers and sound even better.

Saturday 1:00-2:15 Session 8E Mountain Dulcimer Intermediate

“Fun and Friendly Fingerpicking” -I’ll bring techniques for clean playing along with some of my favorite arrangements. It’s really the first sound I fell in love with on the dulcimer. I’ll take you on a tour of how I approach finger-style mountain dulcimer.

Saturday 2:30-3:45 Session 9E Mountain Dulcimer Intermediate

“Beautiful Modal Melodies” -The dulcimer was made for modal music. We’ll play some timeless tunes in Dorian and Mixolydian, talk about what gives them that haunting sound, and learn how to bring out their natural beauty on the instrument.
