Friday 10:15-11:30 Session 2K Hammered Dulcimer Intermediate

“Fun SW Virginia Tunes” -Enjoy learning a fast fiddle tune or two as well as a lovely waltz from the mountains of SW Virginia. We’ll focus on efficient hammer technique, melody mapping and appropriate embellishment.

 

Friday 1:00-2:15 Session 3B Mountain Dulcimer Basic/Novice

“Continuing the Journey” -As we learn a couple old time hymns, continue to refine basic techniques and skills on the dulcimer with a focus on strumming and finger placement. Add a few simple chord noted and you’re well on your way to achieving simple but pleasing and rewarding arrangements.

 

Friday 2:30-3:45 Session 4K Hammered Dulcimer Intermediate

“Raggedy Rags” -Get in the groove of syncopation with a couple old time rag tunes. We’ll consider alternate hammer patterns as well as locate a few of those seldom used chromatic notes.

 

Saturday 8:45-10:00 Session 6B Mountain Dulcimer Beginner/Novice

“Easy Celtic Airs” -Experience the expressive and haunting beauty of these timeless Celtic Airs. The creative use of left- and right-hand technique give voice to the plaintive soul of these treasures. 

 

Saturday 10:15-11:30 Session 7J Hammered Dulcimer Beginner

“Melody Mapping” -Get a little practice and insight into recognizing melodic patterns and intervals of tunes. This skill will greatly improve learning and memorizing your favorite songs.

 

Saturday 2:30-3:45 Session 8S Autoharp

“Carter Family Tunes” -The mountains of SW Virginia gave us the music of the Carter Family, giving this region the title of “The Birthplace of Country Music”. Enjoy playing and singing a few of the classic tunes that created a whole new genre of American popular music.  

 

Saturday 2:30-3:45 Session 9S Autoharp

“Songs From Days Gone By” –Have fun playing and singing some classic “Parlor Songs” from the era that first popularized the autoharp and brought it out of obscurity!
